2007 Race for 2008 Honorary Mayor of Ruskin
My name is Fred Jacobsen and I would like to be your Honorary
Mayor.
When I first came to this area 3 1/2 years ago, Debbie
Vogel of Century 21 Beggins Realty and I developed the website
SouthShoreTampaBay.com to help promote all the communities of SouthShore
including Ruskin.
After I met long-time Ruskin residents Sandy Council
and Dr. Mac Miller, I helped create the
RuskinHistory.org website as a way to save and share stories and photos
of Ruskin’s history.
When I visited Camp Bayou Outdoor Education Center in
Ruskin, I met Dolly Cummings and became so interested in the natural environment
there that I joined the local Sierra Club and later completed the Florida Master
Naturalist program through the University of Florida. At Camp Bayou, I now lead
nature and native history tours for elementary school and YMCA children.
Since then, I have been appointed to the Hillsborough
County Historic Resources Review Board where I hope to help preserve historic
landmarks and archeological sites in the unincorporated areas of the county.
I pledge to support Ruskin’s Community Plan by
continuing to promote redevelopment in the Ruskin Town Center and to help Ruskin
develop its attraction as an ecotourism destination.
The donations I raise in this campaign will go to
support the important promotional work done by the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce,
as well as to expand the nature and local history educational programs at Camp
Bayou for the benefit children that would not otherwise be able to participate.
We have a terrific program out there that covers the way of life of the native
peoples who lived along the Little Manatee River more than 500 years ago.
Camp Bayou and the Ruskin Historical Society are
projects of the Ruskin Community Development Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit
corporation.
Debbie Vogel will be helping me with fundraising by
donating the entire first year’s subscription from each local company that signs
up for a $1 per week webpage listing in the
SouthShoreTampaBay.com community directory.
